Artist Statement | The artwork I do in wood, paint, fiber and photography is varied. What may seem at first glance to be unfocused or lacking in continuity, often unplanned, is a process that keeps me in present time.
I believe in order to determine what you want to do for your livelihood, you must eliminate what you do not want to do. An important consideration is a belief in yourself and an overall balance in what you’re doing. Weaving is one of my balances. Being outdoors is another. I used to think this was a conflict. Now I have skid marks on my loom from dragging it outside. Weaving renews a memory of something I have seen outdoors: a shape, line, landform or collection of colors. These natural inspirations surface in my work, sometimes accurately, sometimes abstractly. Art is about producing, contributing either to the beauty or functionality of something. That which is produced should bring pleasure both to the artist and the viewer. It is with a feeling of joy and a sense of gratitude I share my passion for creating, from my hand to yours.
